The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating allegations against the Calgary Police Service in the handling of the missing person investigation into the disappearance of a teenager whose body was located several weeks later.

Officials with the Calgary Police Service say they requested the review into the Crowshoe investigation 'in order to ensure full transparency and public confidence of the case and CPS actions'.

In early July, 18-year-old Colton Crowshoe was taken into police custody for an undisclosed reason and released hours later on the morning of July 2.

According to Colton's father, Jimmy Crowshoe, his son was arrested in connection to loitering but was not charged. Colton returned home with bruices and scrapes on his face.

“When he came home, his face was all pushed up, scraped," said Jimmy Crowshoe. "He was crying, the cops that did that to him. Cops wouldn’t give him a badge number.”

On July 6, members of Crowshoe’s family reported the teenager as missing after he did not return home after leaving a friend’s house in northeast Calgary on the evening of July 3.

Crowshoe’s body was located in an Abbeydale pond on July 24. His death has been ruled a homicide.

While the Calgary Police Service continues to investigate Crowshoe’s death, ASIRT is investigating the interaction between CPS members and Crowshoe as well as the conduct of the CPS during the investigation into Crowshoe’s disappearance.
