The defence for a former Calgary teacher accused of sexual assault in Indonesia says the testimony given by the alleged victims cannot be trusted.

Neil Bantleman was in court on Tuesday and heard testimony from one of the young boys who alleges he was sexually assaulted by Bantleman and other staff at the Jakarta International School.

Bantleman’s lawyers said the testimony is constantly changing and cannot be trusted.

They claim the victims didn’t feel scared about returning to attend the school, which isn’t consistent with someone who had been sexually assaulted by a person of authority, especially connected to an institution.

They are requesting the testimony to be thrown out.

Bantleman has been in jail since July.
