Police have laid over 100 weapons charges in connection with a major weapons trafficking investigation.

It started on June 22 when plainclothes officers witnessed a suspicious transaction on Heritage Gate S.E.

Three men were arrested and a vehicle seized.

Inside the car, police found a 9 mm semi-automatic machine gun and three handguns.

A home in the northwest community of Edgemont was also searched.

In that raid, police seized:

  • Two flare pistols with conversion pipes to fire 12-guage shotgun shells
  • A double-barrel 10-gauge shotgun
  • A 12-guage shotgun
  • Over 260 rounds of ammunition
  • Several boxes of 12-gauge shotgun shells
  • A butterfly knife

Another vehicle was searched and five handguns, including a loaded .45 calibre weapon, were found.

Despite the large number of weapons seized, police say they don't believe there is a connection to organized gang activity in Calgary.

Anthony Stephan, 33, is facing 55 weapons-related charges including trafficking in firearms and possession of a firearm with ammunition.

Investigators still haven't managed to track down Stephan's whereabouts.

Mikkel Rydstrom-Poulsen, 25, and 24-year-old Ahmed Zaghloul are facing 24 weapons-related charges, including trafficking in firearms.

Andrew O'Neal Cox, 30, is charged with one count of trafficking in firearms.

They are also looking into exactly where the weapons came from and say many of the guns have had their serial numbers tampered with.
