A Calgary man, accused in the murder of a mother and her young son in Evanston last week, appeared briefly in court on Tuesday.

Guevara Wilson Clorina, 26, appeared on closed circuit television as the judge adjourned the proceeding so that he could be given more time to secure a lawyer for his own defence.

He is facing two counts of second degree murder for the deaths of 35-year-old Chona Manzano and her five-year-old son Gabriel.

Both were found dead inside their home in Evanston on May 16.

Police say they were stabbed to death.

A suspicious vehicle was seen leaving the scene and was later spotted by Didsbury RCMP on Highway 2.

The driver was apprehended after police caught up to the car as it was parked on a rural road in the area.

Clorina, who is related to the victims as part of their extended family, was arrested and charged with the deaths.

The case has been adjourned until next Monday.
