One man is dead and two others were taken to hospital after a shooting at a community hall in the southeast.

Police were called to the Albert Park Radisson Heights Community Centre at 1310 28 St. S.E. just after 3:00 A.M. to respond to several calls about shots being fired.

A large number of people were attending an event at the hall and many fled the area when police arrived.

An adult male was pronounced dead at the scene and a second person was treated and transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A few minutes later another injured person was found behind the building but refused assistance from EMS.

Around 4:00 A.M. police were called by a person who said they had been shot and determined the person had been injured in the melee at the community hall.

Police and EMS located this person at 16th Ave. and 19th St. N.E. and transferred the victim to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The president of the community association says the hall was rented out for a small wedding reception.

Witnesses told CTV News that the violence erupted when uninvited guests crashed the party.

"All we know for sure is there was possibly some kind of verbal confrontation that obviously turned violent," said Duty Inspector Keith Pollock.

Police are interviewing a large number of potential witnesses and the Homicide Unit, Gang Unit and detectives from the Organized Crime Section have been called in to assist in the investigation.

"Fortunately for us this time there were a number of people that remained at the scene, a fairly large number so we're going through talking with all of those people to determine what we can," said Pollock.

Police want to talk to anyone who was at the party and are encouraging them to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-262-TIPS
