Calgary police continue to investigate a stabbing at a northeast bar on the weekend that took the life of a local man.

Police were called to the Sunset Vine Pub and Eatery, at 2220 68 St. N.E., at about 1:45 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012, to reports of an altercation inside the bar.

When they arrived they found a man suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses say that the victim was standing inside the bar when he became involved in an altercation with another male. They say the victim was stabbed and the offender quickly left the bar.

Police talked to several witnesses but were unable to get an accurate description of the suspect.

Friends and family say that the victim is Mario Gomez.

Flowers and messages adorn the entrance to the bar where the stabbing happened.

Investigators say that they do not believe this was a random attack and have not established a motive.

The murder is the city's third homicide this year.
