The family of a man who was killed after he was shot by police was allowed to return home on Monday but they are still struggling to come to terms with his death.

Peeace's sister and niece say they are disturbed to learn the officer who shot Corey is the same officer who tasered him back in February 2010.

During that altercation, police were called to the home because of a domestic disturbance.

Corwin Peeace, 40, was charged with assault and obstructing a police officer, but those charges were dropped.

According to court documents, he was not convicted of any crime and has no criminal record.

On Friday night, police responded to a check on welfare at a home in 200 block of Erin Meadow Close S.E. around 8:00 p.m.

A woman in the home had called 911 saying she was in distress.

Officers were confronted by a man armed with a knife when they approached the house.

Corwin Peeace was shot several times by an officer and died at the scene.

Police confirm that the same officer had dealt with Peeace before and tasered him during an incident back in February 2010.

Chief Rick Hanson personally reviewed the 911 call and says the officer's prior dealings had no influence on his split second decision on Friday night.

His family says he wasn't violent and they weren't afraid of him.

They are now preparing to bury Peeace in Saskatchewan where he was born.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, ASIRT, is looking into the shooting and will determine if the officer's actions were justified.

The specialized unit was brought into the investigation which is standard any time a person is seriously injured or killed as a result of an officer's actions.
