The Calgary Police Arson Unit is still investigating a fire that severely damaged a home in Montgomery and ended up with two men being arrested.
Crews were called to a home in the 1800 block of 41 Street N.W. at about 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
When they got there, they found two men outside, with the fire fully involved in the structure.
The two men were insistent on getting back into the home, and firefighters needed to restrain them to prevent them from getting inside the burning home.
Police say one man, Robert Kyle Chapman, 26, had to be arrested on charges of assault against one of the fire captains at the scene.
The second man at the home was arrested on outstanding warrants.
No charges have been laid in connection with the fire itself.
Investigators say there was initially some confusion about whether or not another person inside.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and went inside, but found no other occupants.
Police, meanwhile, are considering the fire to be suspicious.
Neigbours tell CTV that there was a party at the home prior to the fire. They called 911 shortly after spotting the flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial reports indicate that the fire was intentionally set..
"The Arson Unit is investigating," says CPS Duty Staff Sergeant Jon James. "Once their investigation is complete, we will know how and why the fire started."
No one was injured in the fire.
