Calgary police have charged a 28-year-old man after he allegedly stole a truck and raced through city streets before abandoning the vehicle at Marlborough mall.

28-year-old, Ryan Joseph Laveck, of Calgary, is charged with failure to stop for police, theft over $5,000 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. on Monday when someone stole a White Chevy truck near 48 St. S.E.

Officers spotted the vehicle near McKnight Blvd and 68th Street S.E. but the truck fled the area before they could stop it.

RCMP laid a spike belt at the city limits on Deerfoot Trail and the truck continued on despite hitting the belt and blowing a front tire.

Police used Hawks, GPS and ground surveillance to track the truck and remained at a safe distance while the vehicle sped through stop signs and red lights.

The truck ended up at Marlborough Mall where dozens of police officers flooded the area in search of the suspects, who managed to get away.

Investigators were able to pin down a suspect on Thursday at a residence on Penbrooke Dr. S.E.

They contained the area, set up a command post and arrested the man without incident.

Police say that there were also 7 outstanding warrants for Laveck's arrest and are considering additional charges in this incident.

Police continue to work to identify the passenger in the stolen vehicle and any other individuals who may have assisted the duo in evading police.
