The body of a man has been discovered in a motel in the city’s northwest and police are working to determine if his death was criminal in nature.

Police were called to a motel in the 2100 block of 16 Avenue NW at about noon on Monday for a check on welfare and found a man, in his 40s, dead inside one of the rooms.

“We put the scene out as big as possible at the beginning to make sure we have an opportunity to collect any evidence that may be associated to this event. It’s always better to go bigger and then scale down as the event becomes clearer to the first responder. We work with people in the motel. We work with the businesses in the area to make sure they understand what’s happening and everybody’s been cooperative and understanding and they realize that this is an important event that has to be properly manage,” said CPS Duty Inspector Ryan Ayliffe.

The Medical Examiner has been called in and an autopsy is expected to be conducted on Wednesday.
