Police are currently on scene in northwest Calgary after a man sent to hospital after being involved in a hit and run.

Shortly after 8 a.m., police were called to the 9900 block of Hidden Valley Drive N.W. after a man was found unresponsive in the street.

Investigations soon learned that a short time earlier, a small, dark-coloured Nissan was seen driving on the road.

At the same time, a 28-year-old man was trying to cross the street when he was hit by the car.

Police say he was not crossing at a marked crosswalk.

He was transported to Foothills Hospital in serious condition.

The Nissan continued driving and did not stop as required.

The Calgary Police's Traffic Section is leading the investigation and looking for the driver.

They say the Nissan would have sustained damage to the hood as a result.

Police are urging the driver to come forward. "I believe with our investigative capabilities that CPS will be able to locate this person and I just do strongly urge that the person responsible for this come forward to us," says Sgt. Jason McDonald.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
