Police are putting out a plea to the public for information on the 2012 murder of a Calgary man who was shot to death in his vehicle on a southeast street.
Kather El-Khatib, 56, was shot while sitting in his Ford Bronco in the 4300 block of 19 Avenue S.E. in the early morning hours of May 25, 2012.
El-Khatib’s body was discovered by a woman at about 1:15 a.m.
“This girl was an acquaintance of the victim. She was with the victim prior to the shooting. She had left and then returned and found him deceased,” said S/Sgt. Doug Andrus of the CPS Homicide Unit.
Police say they are working to solve the homicide and are hoping someone may have seen something that could help with the investigation.
“We do not have a motive and through this appeal we’re hoping we’ll get information that will assist us in identifying the motive,” said Andrus.
Andrus says no tip is too small and that police are following up on a number of investigative avenues.
“What we find is that people who may have seen something, don’t contact police because they believe that we may have the information already or that their information is insignificant and I can tell you there is no such thing as insignificant information. Even the smallest detail can assist us with moving this investigation forward,” said Andrus.
Anyone with information about the shooting or El-Khatib's activities prior to his death is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
