A standoff between a suspect and police in the northwest Calgary community of Valley Ridge came to an end early Thursday morning.

Police were able to make an arrest at the home at about 2:30 a.m.

The situation started at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday when they received a call about a man firing a pellet gun into the grassy area behind his home.

The man holed up inside his home on Valley Brook Circle after police arrived on scene.

They soon found out the man was wanted on outstanding warrants and believed that he may have a number of firearms inside the home.

For the 14 hour operation, police blocked off the area and alerted neighbours to stay inside their homes.

They eventually had to use tear gas on the suspect to get him to surrender.

No one was injured during the incident.

No charges have yet been laid and police say that could take some time.
