LRT service in the downtown core was halted for nearly two hours early Tuesday afternoon as the Calgary Police Service investigated reports of a suspicious package.

According to CPS officials, officers responded to a location in the 100 block of 7 Avenue S.W. at around noon after a citizen spotted an unusual object.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the CPS tactical unit removed the item from the area. The nature of the object has not been confirmed and an investigation is underway.

CTrain service resumed in the downtown core shortly after 2:00 p.m. During the disruption, shuttle buses transported passengers between City Hall station, 7 Street station and 8 Street station.
