University of Lethbridge looking for Blackfoot artist to create new school symbol
Blackfoot artists are being asked to submit designs for the creation of a new symbol that will be used by the University of Lethbridge and Pronghorn Athletics.
The goal is for the mark to signify strength, resilience and unity, while showcasing both Blackfoot heritage and staying true to the values of the university.
“Incorporating this new mark, grounded in Blackfoot ways of knowing, will serve as a lasting symbol of the university's commitment to inclusion, cultural respect, community-building and its connection to the land and people it serves,” said Naamoipiiksii (Hummingbird), Shanda Webber, director of Iniskim Indigenous relations.
The chosen design will be showcased on Pronghorns jerseys and merchandise, as well as in digital media and university branding.
“Pronghorn Athletics has already been intentional about building relationships with Indigenous communities and athletes, including developing the Saokiawakaasiks (Pronghorns) Scholarship for Indigenous athletes, as well as hosting an annual Indigenous Basketball Night," Webber said.
Submissions are being accepted until Jan. 31, 2025.
