It's been a dangerous long weekend along Calgary's CTrain tracks as two serious incidents have left one man dead and another in hospital.

There have been at least 11 occurrences of CTrains colliding with cyclists or pedestrians in 2011.

Despite the warning bells, the signs and the gates people continue to be hit along Calgary's LRT tracks.

Many Calgarians are dumbfounded that CTrain collisions continue to occur.

" Downtown, I've seen a lot of people almost get hit by the train," says one Calgarian, "but that's their own stupidity."

"I don't have a problem crossing safely."

Police determined Sunday's northeast Ctrain fatality to be "not suspicious" and a majority of the other incidences have appeared to be random accidents.

Sunday evening, a 74-year-old, visually impaired man fell onto the tracks at the Lions Park station. He suffered injuries to his head and neck.

With school back in session, the trains are getting busier along the 46 kilometres of track.

The trains are equipped with safety features but accidents are still happening as people step in the path of oncoming trains.

Many LRT tragedies could be avoided if pedestrians took the time to look both ways before crossing the tracks.
