A wind warning has been issued for parts of southern Alberta with gusts expected to reach 100 km/h on Thursday afternoon.

The warning covers the Okotoks, High River, Claresholm, Cardston, Fort Macleod, Magrath, Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek and Waterton Lakes National Park areas.

Environment Canada says strong west winds gusting up to 100 km/h are expected by the afternoon.

The agency says the strongest winds will be along the southern foothills from High River to Pincher Creek and the system should weaken sometime Thursday evening.
