A Didsbury woman accused of killing her husband made a brief appearance in court Monday morning.

Heather Wilson Duncan, 60, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of her husband, identified as 68-year-old Barry Duncan.

RCMP officers were called to a home just west of Didsbury, near Elkton Friday evening, and found the man shot to death inside the residence.

Police say the victim's wife called 911, saying she had pulled the trigger.

Following the court appearance, Heather Wilson Duncan's lawyer Jim Butlin said alcohol was involved that night, but declined to say whether there was a history of domestic violence within the home.

Police say they have never been called to the home for any domestic violence incidents.

Butlin said the woman had moved to the Didsbury area from Calgary about five years ago shortly after the couple got married.

He said he also plans to apply for bail in the next couple of days and expects to be successful.

"I see no danger to the community," Butlin said. "This was a one-off for her and the deceased."

Heather Wilson Duncan's next court appearance is Dec. 20. She will appear from the Calgary Remand Centre on closed-circuit television at the request of her lawyer.
