“The Revenant” was predicted to do well at the Oscars, and it delivered on those hopes at the ceremony on Sunday, February 28, 2016 by garnering three of the coveted golden statuettes.

It was cause for celebration for the many Canadians who worked on the film.

“It shows the rest of the world that the people and crews and unions here are more than capable of making world class movies,” said Aaron McCullough, paint coordinator. “We can supply the people that have all the skills whether it's camera or construction or whatever it is.”

600 Canadians had a hand in making the film, including crews from Alberta and B.C. Much of the film was shot in Kananaskis using only natural light in rugged conditions, making it a challenge to shoot. Some filming was also done in Montana and Argentina.

On Sunday night, former crew members gathered at Flames Central to watch the Oscars.

Many other Calgarians attended events around town, like a red carpet fundraiser put on by the Calgary International Film Festival, hosted by CTV’s Kathy Le and actor David Trible. All the money raised will be put back into the local film industry, developing programs for youth and supporting local talent.
