Now that it’s April 1, a number of organizations are joining in on the fun in coming up with outlandish hoaxes to poke fun and bring on a few laughs.

Among the jokes are SAIT’s ‘weather-correcting dome’ which the institution plans to erect to help improve the morale and overall performance of students.

“This is something revolutionary. We are going to have a self-contained ecosystem under the dome,” says Boris Dragicevic, Associate Vice President of Facilities Management and Campus Expansion said in the joke release. “Our power use is going to drop dramatically and our students are going to enjoy endless warmth and greenery all year long.”

SAIT officials proclaim that the dome will generate pleasant weather year-round and save the school on its snow removal budget.

The Alberta Motor Association says they are doing their part to help drivers who are fed up with hitting potholes on roads in Alberta.

In a release on Monday, the company says they will be offering a Pothole Glider system which allows vehicles to glide comfortably over potholes up to three inches deep.

“Our members have told us, in their loud outside voices, that they’re frustrated with the wear and tear on their vehicles that pothole season brings,” said Jane Flower, AMA’s marketing vice president in the release. “We wanted to do something to keep our members comfy and their cars covered. We’re proud to be the first auto club in North America to develop and deliver a comprehensive pothole protection service to our members.”

Jon Cornish of the Calgary Stampeders also made an announcement to the media on Tuesday morning, saying the team had traded him to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Cornish said he was pleased with the transition, tweeting:

Alberta’s political parties also poked some fun on April Fool’s with Danielle Smith of the Wildrose saying she would be running for leadership of the PC Party.

In the phony release, Smith says she will move Legislature to High River and convert the former Legislature grounds in Edmonton into a feral horse sanctuary.

She says she also has a great idea to take care of the province’s debt.

"To provide further fiscal clarity and economic prosperity, I will put Alberta’s provincial debt on my WestJet MasterCard - every Albertan will get one free reward flight to visit the beautiful vacation destination of Regina,” said Smith in the release on Tuesday morning.

Alberta's NDP Party also released news that leader Brian Mason will run for leadership of the Wildrose Party.

Mason says that his decision was prompted by Danielle Smith's choice to run for PC leadership and he pledges to 'unite the right by supporting public health care, higher royalties, and borrowing lots of money.'

He also said that he's pleased with Smith's decision.

"She's pretty good at it, and I look forward to facing her across the aisle."

The Alberta Liberal Party, not to be left out from the April Fool’s fun, has also said that Loblaws was suing the Progressive Conservatives for the use of the ‘PC’ brand.

They say they have uncovered legal documents saying that Loblaws wants the PC Party to immediately cease the use of ‘PC’ as an abbreviation and logo.

“It’s fine when both enterprises are popular and profitable, but I can appreciate how demoralizing it must be when all Loblaws hears in the news every day is ‘PC corruption this’ and ‘PC entitlement that’,” says Liberal leader Raj Sherman in the fake release. “I can understand why they don’t want anyone to confuse their brand with that tired old party.”
