NHL players are getting an edge on the competition thanks to one Calgary-based company. Graf got its start in Switzerland, but its main North American manufacturing plant is here.

Before Peter Stastny of the Avalanche shoots and scores. Before Pekka Rinne of the Predators makes a highlight reel save. Someone has to make their skates. And that's what the Calgarians are doing at Graf Canada are doing.

Former Swift Current Broncos captain Taylor Vause is among Graf's customers. The forward played with the Dallas Stars' farm team. He broke his foot blocking a shot and now with a custom fitting he gets a little extra protection.

Graf skates aren't cheap. They start at close to $500 and the pros are paying much more. For those athletes who are particular and want their skates just right, the skates are worth it.

Graf Canada is about to make an aggressive push for the North American hockey market. For the first time they will be paying NHL players to use their images to promote their products.

Graf Canada also makes figure skates. Olympic Gold Medalist Evan Lysacek uses Graf Canada skates.
