Several Government of Alberta facilities remain without power following Saturday night’s explosion and fire in Calgary’s downtown core.

The outage is widespread with an estimated 5,000 residents and 2,000 businesses.

Operations will be limited at the following buildings until the power is restored:

  • McDougall Centre - 455 6 St S.W.
  • AMEC Building - 801 6 Ave. S.W.
  • JJ Bowlen - 620 7 Ave. S.W.
  • Calgary Courts Centre - 601 5 St. S.W.

The Calgary Courts Centre will remain closed on October 14, 15, and 16. Matters scheduled for these dates will be rescheduled. New court dates will be made available at Alberta Courts.

“The province is offering support to the City of Calgary in its time of need,” said Premier Jim Prentice. “Our Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) is assisting with logistics coordination and will continue this work until power is restored.”

Following a request from city officials, AEMA arranged for the Mewata Armoury (801 11 St. S.W.) to serve as an information centre for displaced downtown residents.

Premier Prentice will address the media about the downtown power outage on Monday afternoon. A livestream of Prentice's availability will be available at 5:00 p.m. on the CTV Calgary website.
