A spring storm swept into the area on Thursday morning bringing snow and rain and everything in between.

CTV Calgary’s Weather Specialist Todd Gallant says we should get a break in precipitation later in the day but the flurries will likely return overnight.

The average for Calgary at this time of year is +11 and the city will struggle to see temperatures on the plus side for Thursday.

The precipitation varied in different areas of the city as snow fell in the west and rain in the east.

The city had road crews out early in the day to keep the roads from becoming slick.

"Our crews did begin preparing by loading up all the sanders and once the snow started, our crews have been out there, sanding priority ones,'" said Jennifer Thompson-Goldberg with the City of Calgary. "We are actually using a mix of salt and gravel because of the road surface temperatures and that's actually warmer so the snow isn't sticking but it's to prevent the icing."

The city says it will keep an eye on conditions and adjust the materials it uses on the roads if the temperatures drop.

Conditions are not expected to improve much and more snow is forecast for the weekend.
