Following a 4,000 kilometre road trip across the continent, Kamala, Swarna, and Maharani have arrived at their new home at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C.

Officials with the National Zoo say the elephants were monitored throughout the 60-hour truck trip by members of the Calgary Zoo’s animal care team using closed circuit monitors.

The three elephants are currently in quarantine but will soon join the National Zoo’s four Asian elephants to create a multi-generational herd.

The National Zoo has created an online, 24-hour elephant camera so members of the public can watch Kamala, Swarna and Maharani during their time in quarantine. Please note: The camera is stationary and the elephants are not always in the frame.
