Three men are facing charges after the body of a 17-year-old boy was found in a remote area north of Morley on Monday.

Investigators were originally called to a home on San Diego Way N.E. at about 7:40 p.m. Saturday for a check on welfare after someone heard a loud noise and called police.

“A member of the community had become aware of the event on Saturday night, sometime between the event and Sunday evening, had the courage to come forward to police and articulate what he knew so investigators were called out and it took some time to piece together and corroborate that story to see what we even had initially,” said Insp. Don Coleman, of the CPS Homicide Unit. "I believe the initial report Saturday was of what sounded like a gun shot."

Officers attended the home but didn’t find anyone there who needed help.

The next day, police received tips about a possible homicide at the same home and were then led to another residence on Dover Tree Place S.E.

Police conducted search warrants on both residences and arrested four men and seized two vehicles at the Dover area home.

On Monday, police found the body of Ezzulddin Al-Ogaidi, 17, in an area west of the city and arrested a fifth person.

“We believe the original incident took place at the San Diego residence. Investigative strategies utilized at the onset of the investigation led us to the Dover address, so that would be your two scenes, and then the third scene would be the location of the body in Morley,” said Insp. Coleman. “We believe the homicide occurred at San Diego Way and then the body was removed from there and ultimately, as we know, located in Morley.”

Police removed a fire pit from the yard at the Dover address and say it is related to the investigation.

“Investigative strategies led us to the Dover address where it was apparent there was a fire in the backyard so police intervened and it would appear that there was attempts to destroy evidence going on by way of the fire,” said Coleman.

Three men have been charged with accessory after the fact to murder:

  • Ahmed Abid, 24
  • Mohammed Khalil, 28
  • Ashraf Jasem Ajil, 23

All three are expected in court on December 8.

The two other people who were arrested in connection with the murder were released without charges.

Neighbours of the home in Monterey Park say that a few young men lived there and say they were friendly, but there was a lot of traffic at the home.

“They used to get a lot of visitors. That I know because we are losing a lot of parking spots because of that,” said Syrus George, a neighbour. “Everybody is really concerned about that because every day there is five, six, seven, eight cars would be around here.”

Police say those involved were all known to each other but would not discuss their relationships due to investigative reasons.

They recovered firearms during the investigation and say they have been sent for forensic examination.

Police were looking for Kasetta Marshall, 19, in connection to the incident and say they have located her and she is being interviewed.

"She'd be a person of interest and what her involvement in this was will determine at the conclusion of her interview," said Coleman.

Al-Ogaidi is Calgary's 27th murder of 2016.
