Calgary Police have seized over $750,000 worth of illegal drugs and charged a Chestermere man with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

On February 18, investigators with the CPS Guns and Gangs Unit conducted a search on a vehicle and home in Chestermere, east of Calgary.

Officers seized nearly 10,000 80mg pills of suspected oxycodone as well as over $3,000 in cash.

Samples of the pills were sent to Health Canada for examination and they have been found to contain significant amounts of fentanyl and caffeine.

Investigators say that these types of pills are becoming increasingly more common in Canadian communities.

They pose a greater risk of overdose because of the presence of fentanyl.

Brian Thomas Harrington, 29, of Chestermere, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Police are reminding residents to be aware of illegally-obtained drugs because there is no telling what they may contain.

Street drugs are dangerous and there is no safe dose.

There are also no controls in drug production and drugs are likely cut with various dangerous chemicals.

Anyone with information on counterfeit oxycodone is asked to call the Calgary Police Drug Tip Line at 403-428-8100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
