Public outcry to the City of Calgary’s decision to close a northeast golf course allowed golfers an additional two years on the fairways of McCall Lake. Originally scheduled to close at the end of the 2013 season, the closure has been delayed until the fall of 2015.

Now, the city is asking for input on what should be done with the land the course occupies.

Focus groups were conducted in January and the city has begun a phone and online survey campaign to garner feedback on the land situated between McKnight Blvd. and 32 Ave. N.E., near the runway of the Calgary International Airport.

John Schmal, a former Calgary alderman, worries the fate of the public golf course has already been decided. Officials with City Parks said the money from the sale of McCall Lake was needed to maintain Calgary’s five other municipal courses.
