An early morning rollover along Highway 1A has sent eight people to hospital.

The single vehicle crash happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. on westbound Highway 1A just west of Rainbow Road.   The SUV left the road and rolled into the ditch, coming to a stop on its roof.

The male driver suffered serous but non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted by STARS to the Foothills hospital.  The other occupants of the SUV, three adults and four children ranging in age from 18 months to 8-years-old, were transported to hospital by EMS.

According to RCMP, the occupants of the vehicle are believed to be relatives and were returning to Calgary after a night of visiting friends in Chestermere.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.  The extent of the passenger's injuries has not bCTV Ceen released.
