A 25-year-old snowmobile operator is dead and his 21-year-old female passenger is in hospital with serious injuries after an early morning incident in a farm field in the city’s southeast.
At approximately 2:30 Sunday morning, the two adults were riding an Arctic Cat snowmobile in a large ditch at a high rate of speed near the intersection of 84 St. and 114 Ave. S.E. Upon leaving the ditch, the vehicle went airborne, covering a distance of approximately 23 metres before crashing to the ground.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger was transported by EMS to the Foothills Trauma Centre where she remains in serious, life-threatening condition.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors to the crash.
