An early morning fire in the city’s northwest destroyed two homes and prompted the evacuation of neighbouring houses.

Fire crews were called to Royal Oak Grove N.W. at around 12:30 a.m. following reports of a fire. CFD members encountered two homes fully engulfed in flames and additional resources were deployed to the scene.

“There were working smoke alarms in that building and everyone was able to self-evacuate both of those building before we arrived,” said CFD Chief Steve Dongworth.

Firefighters extinguished the fire before it could spread to neighbouring homes but the blaze caused extensive damage to the two residences.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
