Police are now classifying the death of a woman at a home in Strathmore on Tuesday as a homicide and have charged a 52-year-old man with first-degree murder.

RCMP were called to a home in the 100 block of 6 Avenue just after 1:11 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a woman.

When officers arrived, they found a woman dead in the basement suite of the duplex and say her death appeared to be suspicious.

Police have identified the woman as 49-year-old Brenda Walker, of Strathmore.

Glenn Randall, 52, of Strathmore, was arrested on Tuesday without incident and is now charged with first-degree murder.

Police say that Walker and Randall had been in a previous relationship and that Walker had ended it in 2014.

“They did live together at one point,” said RCMP S/Sgt. Kevin Reilly. “I do know that they did live together in a common-law relationship prior to breaking up in late 2014.”

Police say that no previous history of domestic violence was reported to them.

“We’ve checked our records and there is no indication of any prior calls, domestic or otherwise, in regards to either person,” said Reilly.

Reilly says the Victim’s Services Unit is working with the family.

Randall is in custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance in a Strathmore court on January 20th, 2015.

Police say they have not identified any other suspects at this time but are asking anyone who may have additional information about this investigation to contact the Strathmore RCMP at 403 934-3968, or Crimestoppers to make an anonymous tip at 1800 222 8477.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.
