It wasn’t long ago when Jason Kenney decided to quit the federal Tories for a run at the leadership of the Alberta PCs, but someone has already put their name on the ballot.

Stephanie Kusie, the former director of Common Sense Calgary, hopes to win Kenney’s former seat in Calgary-Midnapore.

She grew up in the community and believes she is the right choice for the job.

“Unemployment is at a 22-year high and our economy is in a recession and people are longing for leadership, but they aren’t getting it from Ottawa right now. That’s why I’ve decided to run,” Kusie said.

Kenney held the riding since his election in 1997 until his decision to step down and run for the Alberta PC Party’s leadership.

A byelection for the riding hasn’t been set yet.
