Once the warm temperatures come out and the snow melts all away, most kids love to ride their bicycles but one young Calgarian sees his bike as a way to help.

Alex Weber is a boy on a mission to help people in Africa who are dying because of polluted drinking water.

Weber has convinced his friends and family to join him in his mission in setting up a charitable organization called Wheels for Wells after finding out how many kids are in need of clean water in Africa.

"I found out that there are thousands and thousands of kids dying every single day from water-related diseases, just because they don't have access to safe water. I thought that was just crazy."

Weber's decided to hold a bike ride in June to raise funds for World Vision's water well program in Africa.

Julia Amulung says there is nothing about Weber that wouldn't inspire people.

"He's a ten year old boy that just wants to change the world, right. And he sees the need of less fortunate people and goes out and does something about it. It's just awesome to see."

Once Alex convinced his friends to get onboard with the bike ride, he went out to secure corporate sponsorship with a local bike business.

"It's amazing, it honestly, I got emotional because I thought, you know, yeah, someone this age and, like I said, the passion just exuded out of him," says Ron Uhlenberg of Ridley's Cycle.

But Alex didn't stop there – he went and got members of a Calgary cycling club called "Pursuit" involved in the charity ride.

Stan Weins was convinced of the effort from the start.

"In Alex's words – how can you not help those who don't have the basic necessities of life? And it just gripped my heart and I wanted to get involved with Alex."

Alex's dreams, however, go way beyond this event. "My dream is that the entire world will have access to clean water."

The Wheels for Wells event is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at 9 a.m.

You can sign up or make a donation by going to wheelsforwells.ca.
