An Air Canada aircraft, destined for Toronto, returned to the Calgary International Airport terminal late Friday afternoon following an incident that prompted a Calgary Fire Department response.

Passengers on the plane, an Airbus A321 twin jet, reported hearing a loud 'boom' . The pilot informed the passengers that the left engine had stalled during acceleration to takeoff.

Flight AC130  was originally scheduled to depart at 4:30 p..m. A rescheduled flight departed the airport Friday evening in a different aircraft.

According to Air Canada, flight AC130 was halted prior to takeoff following an 'engine indication'. Airline officials confirm there was not a fire on the original aircraft and the emergency response was standard protocol.

Air Canada maintenance professionals are inspecting the aircraft.
