In an effort to improve fan safety, the Scotiabank Saddledome will be installing walk through metal detectors at all of the stadium’s main entrances.
Guests are asked to arrive early for games, to avoid bringing bags or items which require inspection, and to be aware of what items are prohibited from the building in order to expedite the security process.
In addition to the metal detectors, the security screening areas will include staff equipped with hand-held metal detecting wands and a bag search area.
Items prohibited from the Saddledome include:
- Backpacks, large bags, or pieces of luggage which are too large to fit under a seat
- Weapons and weapon-like device
- Aerosol cans
- Mechanically enhanced noise makers
- Large chains and spiked jewelry
- Explosives, fireworks, sparklers, glow sticks and laser pens
- Food and beverage
- Alcohol and drugs
- Laptop computers
The security changes at the Saddledome are expected to be completed within the next few weeks. The new security measures are part of an NHL mandate to improve safety at all venues.
Officials with the Calgary Flames remind fans that anyone with a ticket who enters the stadium is subject to the search process and the ticket implies consent to the search.
Metal detectors have been installed at several NHL venues including the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado and the PNC arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
