A 57-year-old motorcyclist from B.C. remains in hospital following a Friday night collision on the QEII highway.

According to RCMP, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the rider was travelling in the southbound lanes of the highway on a 2000 Honda CBR sport bike approximately five kilometres north of the Crossfield overpass. Officers believe the man lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the cable barrier in the median.

The man suffered significant injuries in the crash and was airlifted to a Calgary hospital.

Sheriff Jason Graw of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit confirms the man remains in hospital and continues to receive medical treatment. The full extent of the motorcyclist's injuries has not been released.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit at 403-945-7200.
