Calgary police are attempting to identify a person of interest in connection to the discovery of a body near a Whiterhorn home.
On Thursday afternoon, the remains of a 31-year-old woman were located outside of a home in the 0-100 block of Whitworth Rd. N.E. Police have identified the victim as Dawns Echoes Baptiste.
“There was definitely a struggle that occurred,” said CPS Staff Sergeant Chisholm. “At this point, it’s really early in the investigation but suffice to say the scene was a violent scene.”
The cause of Baptiste’s death has not been released.
Baptiste, of no known address, had been in the Calgary area for several months and was known to frequent the Drop-In Centre.
“We don’t know what her movements are in the days prior to the event,” said S/Sgt. Chisholm. “We want to track her movements and talk to anybody that spoke to her in the days prior to the discovery of her body.”
The crime scene was collapsed on Saturday evening. Staff Sergeant Chisholm says a search of the area did result in the seizure of a number of items which will assist in the investigation. The nature of the evidence has not been disclosed.
Police have not identified a suspect in connection to the murder. On Saturday, CPS members released a surveillance camera image of a man who may hold information related to Baptiste's death.
Anyone who recognizes the man in the photo is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
Dawn Echoes Baptiste is Calgary’s fifth homicide victim of 2015.
