Authorities say they have arrested a Lethbridge man in connection with a drug manufacturing operation which was set up inside an apartment in the southern Alberta community.

In early April, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams were informed of a possibly drug operation in the City of Lethbridge.

On May 27, ALERT, along with Lethbridge Regional Police and RCMP, searched an apartment suite on Lakemount Boulevard South.

During the search, police seized:

  • 229 grams of crack cocaine (an estimated value of $23,000)
  • 75 grams of a buffing agent
  • $3,065 in cash (proceeds of crime)
  • Cooking glassware used in drug production

Police also arrested and charged Abdirahman Warsame during the execution of the search warrant.

Warsame has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Production of a controlled substance
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Officials say that crack cocaine is made by dissolving cocaine powder and mixing it with water and ammonia or baking soda.

The remaining solid substance, which is highly addictive, is then smoked.
