A man was killed in a collision in the city’s northeast on Tuesday morning after his vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree.

The crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Memorial Drive near the Bridgeland LRT Station.

Firefighters had to extricate the man from the wreckage and EMS officials say he was taken to hospital in life threatening condition.

Police have confirned that the man died from his injuries.

Traffic was diverted around the scene for several hours and police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the crash.
