Alberta Premier Jim Prentice has made a number of changes since taking over as leader a few weeks ago and on Wednesday appointed a new executive director for his Southern Alberta Office.

Emma May takes over as the Executive Director of the Premier’s office at McDougall Centre effective immediately.

May is the co-founder of a successful real estate brokerage, former corporate lawyer, active community advocate and volunteer and president of the Calgary River Communities Action Group.

“Ms. May is a passionate community advocate with a strong community connection here in Calgary and across Southern Alberta. Her leadership, I think, has been on display, it’s action focused,” said Prentice. “What has really stood out and impressed me is her dedication to this city, to the province and to her neighbours.”

The Premier says the office has been underutilized for too long and he is aiming to change that.

“Like many other government offices, it hasn’t been particularly lively, from my perspective it has been shuttered for too long and so we’re going to change that. We’re going to make our Southern Alberta office a hub for government business and community activity here in downtown Calgary,” said Prentice.

Prentice says May will revitalize the office and one of her most important jobs is to ensure Albertans have a direct line into government from his Southern Alberta office.

“Above all else, I want Albertans in the southern part of our province to know that this building represents a direct line into my office,” said Prentice. “Alberta is under new management and McDougall in under new management and Ms. May is the perfect fit for that responsibility.”

Prentice says he wants to brush the dust off the old building and wants it to become a facility that connects southern Albertans to their government.
