Police have located a man wanted in connection to the death of Christa Cachene at a northwest home on the Thanksgiving long weekend.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Isaiah Riel Rider, 18, for second-degree murder in Cachene’s death as well as unrelated warrants for assault and breach of a conditional order.

Early Friday morning, Rider was arrested by Ponoka RCMP following an investigation into a suspect carjacking. Rider was one of five people who fled on foot from a stolen SUV during an RCMP pursuit.

RCMP arrested three of the carjacking suspects. A short time later, a Jeep was stolen from a nearby home when it's owner was threatened with a pipe.

The Jeep was slowed by an RCMP spike belt on the Ermineskin First Nation. RCMP arested a 17-year-old girl but the male suspect ran from the scene.  The male suspect was identified as Rider.

RCMP members, including K-9 and helicopter air support, scoured the area for Rider. Following a tip from local residents, Rider was located and arrested without incident.

Police were called to a home in the 0-100 block of Ranchlands Bay N.W. on Sunday, October 11 for reports of a suspicious death.

The body of Cachene, 26, was found by her father when he went to bring his grandson home.

She was viciously beaten following a party at the home and police believe Rider attended the event.
