RCMP investigators are urging the public to come forward with tips regarding the homicides of two Pincher Creek residents around the 13th anniversary of their deaths.

On Dec. 15, 1997, the bodies of RCMP Sgt. Peter Sopow, 52, and his girlfriend, school teacher Lorraine McNab, 47, were discovered in a horse trailer at McNab's acreage south of Pincher Creek.

Both had died of gunshot wounds two days earlier. The murder weapon, a .22 calibre rifle, was never recovered and no one had ever been charged.

RCMP believe one person was responsible for the crimes, someone from the Pincher Creek area who knew McNab.

RCMP major crimes have renewed the investigation, assigning another officer to review the boxes of evidence, numerous statements and a thousand public tips.

Investigators are also hoping new technology and investigational advances that were not available 13 years ago will help them with their case.

Police believe someone knows important details about the case, possibly through direct knowledge or contact with the person behind the crimes, and urge this person or these persons to come forward.
