RCMP has laid charges against a Red Deer woman and is looking for another woman and a man in connection with a counterfeit cash scheme in Drumheller.

In mid-November, police were called by a local business that a pair of women came into their store and bought a large amount of merchandise with counterfeit U.S. cash.

Later in the evening, the business contacted RCMP again, saying that one of the suspects had returned and was attempting to get a refund on some of the items.

Police attended the scene and arrested 21-year-old Reanne Broderson of Red Deer.

Officers found that Broderson had a significant quantity of U.S. cash on her at the time of her arrest, as well as various other items believed to be stolen or fraudulently obtained.

She was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, fraud, identity theft, possession and use of counterfeit currency.

Broderson pleaded guilty to the offences and is now serving a six month sentence.

Police are also looking for another woman and a man in connection to a pair of related incidents where counterfeit money was used at local businesses.

An investigation has resulted in arrest warrants issued for Sara Alderson, 20, and Jeffrey Morse, 35.

Both are believed to be in the Drumheller area and anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to contact RCMP or Crimestoppers.

The RCMP is also asking area businesses to be aware of the counterfeit currency being circulated in $50 and $20 denominations.

The bills are of very high quality and require additional security checks to determine if they are real or not.
