A 54-year-old man from Sparwood, B.C. has succumbed to the injuries he suffered in a Thursday afternoon snowmobile crash south of Fernie.

Elk Valley RCMP say the crash occurred at around 4:00 p.m. in a remote location near Barnes Lake in the Flathood Wilderness. The vehicles of two snowmobilers, members of a group of experienced riders, collided.

One of the riders did not survive. The extent of the second snowmobiler’s injuries, if any, has not been confirmed.

The British Columbia Coroner’s Service is leading the investigation into the death. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
