Several cattle ranches near CFB Suffield have been locked down because of bovine tuberculosis concerns.

The disease is carried by elk and there is a herd of about 7000 living nearby.

Last month, U.S. food inspectors found Bovine Tuberculosis in an animal that was shipped into the States from Alberta for slaughter.

The animal in question came from a ranch near the base and officials have now quarantined 30 ranches while food safety officials test for the disease.
