A new initiative to help promote local businesses in Calgary is sticking around and already has over 100 members in just a few months.

Two local entrepreneurs launched the ‘Made in Calgary’ campaign in early March to bring attention to the city’s most exciting and innovative companies.

The goal of the project is to highlight and support all the products and services that are coming out of Calgary businesses.

"So the ‘Made in Calgary’ campaign is basically a grassroots movement to promote entrepreneurship and small businesses in this city. So we want people in the city to know exactly which businesses are local, which businesses are founded in Calgary,” said Travis Martin, Co-founder ‘Made in Calgary’ Campaign.

“We thought that the dot was catchy. The whole idea is that you can walk around your community and spot the dot. If you can spot a red dot, you’ve spotted a locally grown business,” said Leighton Healey, Co-founder “Made in Calgary” Campaign.

The round, red stickers are popping up in storefronts all over the city and local companies are jumping on the idea.

Metrovino has been operating for 20 years as an independent business in the Beltline and the red dot designation helps it to stand out.

“I hope that when people see the red dot that they know that they can go in the store and whatever that store is, that the people are there because they live in the city and they want to support their city and they believe in it,” said Cole Larson from Metrovino.

The logo for the campaign was donated and the stickers are free for businesses founded in Calgary.
