Thousands of people were at Heritage Park in Calgary for Canada Day, taking advantage of the great weather to celebrate the country’s 149th birthday.

This year, organizers put together a traditional Dominion Day celebration which included costumed interpreters, dancers, music and a lot of food and treats to enjoy.

The Chinook Country line dancers were also performing for all the guests.

The first 2,016 visitors also had the chance to enjoy a complimentary pancake breakfast before they took in the games and performers.

Barb Munro, communications specialist for Heritage Park Historical Village says the facility always goes above and beyond on Canada Day.

“Canada Day tends to be our busiest day at Heritage Park and we’re expecting anywhere from 5,000 to 7,000 people.”

Heritage Park also played host to the citizenship ceremony for 75 new Canadians on Friday.

Munro says they are always excited to welcome people to Canada at the park. “Heritage Park is a great place to have a citizenship ceremony because not only are we welcoming them to their future in Canada but we are introducing them to the past as well.”

Heritage Park is open seven days a week for the rest of the summer.
