Environment Canada has ended a tornado warning for the M.D. of Foothills.

According to Alberta Emergency Alert, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a tornado touched down near the Okotoks airport.

Okotoks Deputy Fire Chief Dwight Seymour says the town's fire department received no reports of damage following Wednesday's event.

Seymour says the fire department will be contacting Environment Canada to verify reports of a tornado touching down.

"Obviously, if there was an event where there was a tornado that did touch down in a field area and went back up and there's no damage, no need for any kind of (fire department) response,  we just want to follow up to see where the information came from.," says Seymour.

A representative from the Okotoks airport and residents who live in the area surrounding the airport are confused by the reports of funnel clouds in the region as they had not seen a tornado formation during Wednesday afternoon's storm.
