The Denver Nuggets won 108-106 over the Toronto Raptors in the Calgary Saddledome on Monday in an exhibition game that was part of the NBA Canada Series.
For the first time ever, the team brought the game to the city, hoping to make new fans. Although it was just a preseason game, tickets for the event were sold out in just minutes when they went on sale earlier this month.
Cory Joseph, a point guard with the Toronto Raptors, said the city is a ‘home away from home’.
“I got a lot of family here. It is going to be great. Cousins, aunties, uncles, grandparents, a whole bunch. My whole mother’s side is from here.”
He says that tours like this are very important, especially to him as a Canadian. “Showing them live NBA basketball because Toronto, they get it 41 games. It’s always fun and the support is always there. “
Vancouver was the first stop on the tour, and the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors there.
