Four people, including two young children, have been transported by ambulance to hospital following a late morning crash on Highway 1 near the Old Banff Coach Road overpass.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m. and discovered a Lincoln MKX Crossover SUV with substantial front end damage.

“The vehicle was heading in the eastbound lane when it drifted into the ditch and did roll,” said Cst. Jennifer Brewer. ‘“Once the collision analyst comes and does his investigation, we’ll have a better idea of whether speed was a factor or not.”

EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux says crews transported four people to hospital including:

  • The driver, a man in his mid-40s, in serious but stable condition
  • The front seat passenger, a woman in her mid-30s, in serious but stable condition
  • A seven month old girl in serious but stable condition
  • A four-year-old boy in stable and non-life threatening condition

RCMP confirm the occupants of the vehicle are family.

The family’s pet dog appears to have suffered no serious injuries in the rollover.

“There was an animal in the vehicle and we are trying to find a place for it to go while the family is getting looked after,” said Cst. Brewer. “It does not appear that it has injuries but again we’ll have to get that looked at as well.”

RCMP do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. An investigation into the rollover is underway.
